Founded in 1966, the National Association of Counties brings together government communicators from counties and state associations across the country. We provide networking and learning opportunities for those tasked with creating, maintaining, and managing public communications for the people’s closest form of government.

2023 NACIO Awards of excellence - nomination period EXTENDED TO MAY 31!

Do you need more time to submit your nomination for NACIO's Awards of Excellence? Don’t worry - the nomination deadline has been extended to Wednesday, May 31! Counties and associations can nominate more than one program/initiative. What You Need to Know About This Year’s Awards Program

New Nomination Deadline: Wednesday, May 31 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Entry Fees: $40 per entry for NACIO members; $60 per entry for non-NACIO members.

*Payment can be made online through NACo by clicking here. You do not have to be a member of NACo or NACIO to enter this contest. You will, however, need to use the link above to make your entry payment(s).

When will winners be recognized?
Winners will be recognized at the annual NACIO meeting in conjunction with the NACO conference in July. Further information is forthcoming.

What can you enter? Work produced by counties and state county associations within the last year (January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022).

Ready to Take the Lead? NACIO 2nd VP Nominations Due Next Friday, May 26

As PIOs, we serve as leaders within our counties, keeping citizens informed of the good, the important, the mundane, and most of all during times of crisis.  Are you ready to apply those amazing skills on the National level?  The office of 2nd Vice President for the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) is now accepting nominations.

To become a candidate, simply email current NACIO President, Cragin Mosteller at to express your interest and provide a headshot along with short paragraph of your qualifications by May 26.  The head shot and paragraph will be sent out to NACIO members to vote on our next 2nd Vice President.

NACIO’s 2nd Vice President will serve a two year term starting in July 2023 through July 2025.  Following their term as 2nd Vice President they will serve two year terms of 1st Vice President and then President of NACIO.  

For those of you considering putting your hat in the ring, please feel free to call Cragin if you have any questions regarding the time commitment and responsibilities.  NACIO leadership is an amazing and talented group of communications professionals committed to advancing not only the communications profession but the specialization of serving local county government.

Nominations are due May 26.  Ballots will be emailed to NACIO members on June 5 with all ballots due by June 9.  Results will be announced shortly thereafter and the 2nd Vice President will be sworn in at the NACIO Annual Business Meeting in Austin, Texas as a part of the NACo Annual Conference.

As an active affiliate of the National Association of Counties (NACo), NACIO works to promote the value of professional PIOs and communicators to county governments.
